2015 Black Sage Vineyard Cabernet Franc
Plenty of red cherry, some green leafy notes, dried tea leaves, and vanilla notes on the nose. The medium-bodied palate has hints of dried strawberry, some earthy notes and vanilla undertones. The approachable tannins are integrated with a moderate acidity which leads to a medium length finish.
The hot dry summer of 2015 brought the earliest harvest on record for us in the Okanagan Valley. This vintage saw some concerns due to the fires in the area as well as in Washington State. No ill effects were seen from these events as the smoke came and went in a matter of days, and the Black Sage Vineyard was not impacted. The cool evenings arrived and slowed down the ripening process, allowing the fruit some extra hang time. All in all, 2015 was an outstanding harvest.
The wine was fermented in open top stainless steel fermenters and manually punched down twice daily with a total of 14 days of maceration time. The secondary malolactic fermentation occurred while the wine was in barrels. The barrels were a selection of French (70%) and American (30%) oak. The wine was aged for 15 months in the barrels before being racked off and filtered. 96% Cab Franc, 4% Merlot
Food Pairing Notes

A beautiful cab franc with a smooth tannis, beats a lot of wines that are priced higher.
