Wine Country Highlights

One Hundred Miles of Lake
The cool, pristine waters of Okanagan, Skaha, Vaseaux and Osoyoos lakes follow the Okanagan Valley’s main highway. Along the way are rest areas and picnic stops, providing a great place to stretch your legs and take in Wine Country.

Our knowledgeable, friendly staff is trained to provide information on the wineries, the wines and the region. Whether you are a wine expert or a novice, their goal is to make your visit a unique experience, offering a great balance of information, outstanding wines and our famous Wine Country hospitality.

It Starts in the Vineyard
While not normally part of the winery tours, we believe that the quality of our wines begins in the vineyard. Traveling through Wine Country you will pass many extensive vineyards with distinct names: Bear Cub, McIntyre Bluff, Bull Pine, Dark Horse, Black Sage, SunRock and Whitetail. Some of our oldest vines are located at Sumac Ridge Estate Winery and See Ya Later Ranch, while some of our newest are planted around Nk’Mip Cellars. Each wine is a product of our distinct vineyard sites offering characteristic “terroir” that is reflected in our quality VQA wines.

Southern Okanagan Viticulture
The diversity of vines planted in the Okanagan Valley provides winemakers with a multitude of options to express their creative talents and technical expertise. The region has attracted viticulturists and winemakers from around the world. The northern tip of the Sonoran Desert, which extends all the way south to Mexico, touches across the Canada-US border into the south Okanagan Valley. As Canada’s only desert, its geography has everything to do with the dryness, hot days and cools nights of the valley and shapes the landscape for viticulture. Vineyards have been established primarily on benches surrounding the 200 kilometre chain of lakes. The soils were deposited in the valley during the last ice age and they vary in texture and depth.
